Ants the size of housecats
We tend to ignore them – if we notice them at all – but ants are among the most successful and diverse life forms on Earth. And the California Academy of Sciences is now helping people look at the 15,000 different varieties of ants up close by assembling an unprecedented online ant photo gallery. The project started in North America 10 years ago, adding a few ants each day. Now the Academy has sent a team overseas to collect many more images.
